today's meeting was quite informative - I'm glad we are doing weekly meetings leading up to the deadline (zoë also said she's available afterwards for practical advice as well, even if its things like visas etc.) and to my surprise there was information that was new - like having a selected bibliography in the research journal. I have so so many sources I looked at, but I guess I can make a highlighted list that really affected me. of course, zoë said, a lot of this probably overlaps with the MCP bibliography which makes sense and is true for me. also, hanne asked how much detail or information to give for the proposal and zoë said it's like asking how big is a sheet of paper and it really is down to our judgment and the work.. (she alsob showed us what theyh prepared for stage 2 for their proposals which is a powerpoint template and they didn't give us that because they know we are already doing those things) we also discussed some more technical things like uploading separate documents for the proposal is okay, and it is ok to have past work on the portfolio website they just won't assess that part.. and also joey came in and said he's available to book for academic support (the usual way through the other academic support website) to talk about anything, a second opinion, and zoë said it would be good to take your artist statement to him too. she also mentioned how they will always be in the position of marking us up rather than down, to see the potential and understand the circumstances we are in, which won't affect our grade, but they know it affected greatly, our experience. and collecting our work - more information to come. at the end we also discussed the online showcase and zoë mentioned my idea I put on the google doc, esp the bit about sound (of these studio?) and the video or place of the studio.
my comment on the doc:
'I agree with Zoë’s ideas below - especially something like Hurvin Anderson’s work there. Perhaps this ‘studio space’ could really be based off of our spaces in wimbledon, a corner, a wall space - so it’s a landscape we’ve all become familiar with over the years. maybe it would be interesting to have sound as an element when clicking onto certain areas as you wander through, for a specific atmosphere. I don’t know if this is possible but even navigated through one of those virtual spaces, like what you see on some museum ‘virtual tours’, 360 degrees.. Like we’re seeing the work IN the studio spaces like they would be hung/placed normally.. Otherwise, I really like the ‘postcard’ idea, pinned, because it insinuates a sort of ‘souvenir’, of our experiences on the course, always something good to look back on.'
and then hanne suggested maybe also something like one of our works - like louisa's - being the background for the showcase as some bits are based off our studios which is also a good idea... anyway, it's still at a beginning stage right now but is exciting to think about. of course, zoë said to definitely get in touch with her or nelson or anyone, they don't want us to feel adrift or away from the community at Wimbledon and nelson said he feels we are a very tightly knit year which I think is quite true and that is comforting.
