actually, when I was watching the second half of zoë's video on proposals, I got a bit inspired by the bit about cardboard models because I never even considered that option. I've always pictured a digital manipulated image for my proposal - and I probably will stick to that - but just in looking around my room and looking at the boxes I have (I enjoyed imaging these different scales - reimagining small things to be big, I love that) it was quite inspiring to think about how my seemingly scattered works could situate with each other, like zoë said, the scrappiness of her cardboard model was integral as the realisation as a form of note-taking.
I realised that the 'show' I'm trying to build is getting more and more cluttered, random, overwhelming, almost like the cabinet of curiosities they mentioned at the interim. I don't know if I want the show to feel like that, maybe like that but more spaced out? tom did say that it should be either only one type of work e.g. paintings or everything at once. and I absolutely cannot just have one thing because it is impossible for me to eliminate things when everything has the same importance, so I guess it's everything at once. and that's the difficult part, arranging everything at once without having a physical space to concretely visualise (I don't even know if my proposal will be in a real place...)
but I did like the notion of everything at once - it seemed to represent how I work quite well, I'm constantly scattered all over the place, I don't know where to settle, even though I wish nothing but to settle. dan said my practice seems to be discursive. sometimes I wish I had something concrete. I wish one thing could hold its own. sometimes things work better together. perhaps, the suggestion by zoë of the 'live collage' thing - I really liked that idea, I think I'm definitely incorporating that in my proposal - I still want the blown up taxidermy black and white images on the walls, stretched out, immersive.
the difficult thing is the digital drawings.. I thought they'd be a central element to the final show but, I wasn't thinking about them in terms of displaying in a show.. I realised that they look best on a digital surface, when you can zoom in on them (or prerecorded zoomed in) - and this begs the question of how to display digital drawings, the dilemma that dan mentioned - and I'm really feeling it now. I agree it would feel kind of fake to just print them out normally.. (perhaps I could try and print them on not-normal paper? like softer material or ? I have no idea in this area...)
*update: i just ordered three prints - the escalator drawing mounted on 3mm, the first drawing on watercolour like paper, and the final I wanted to try for a collage, minimised it to around 30cm across - in their most popular type photorag print. it's quite expensive adding up but I think the quality will be worth it. maybe I can even work over it. perhaps I can find more cost effective options in thr future. (I used theprintspace, they seem to do really good quality prints for artists and photographers.. it came down to aruond £60 including shipping)

I just love the playfulness (yet critical and valuable way of approaching the digital culture) present in his practice (like when he hacks into these systems and manipulates them) as well as the involvement of the 'player' in some of the pieces. aesthetically (also the titles) it draws you in too. this playfulness reminds me again of Jon rafman. I want to have this aspect to my work as well...
I really like how his website feels personal and appropriate to his practice, with commentary like it is. a blog.. it's a fun place to explore.. I will be taking inspiration..

------- thinking about projections, his projection works are also really effective which is making me rethink about this way of displaying video and images...
-also the final work in paik exhibition..
-screen recording - e.g. on his channel, humourous, maybe link in the recording I did in blog archive..that is more away from the show now but I could think about in terms of now - taxidermy.digital maximum range and how much I can zoom (concert footage and addict of documentation ) perception, zoom with eyes. on an already existing image. what does this mean printed - (zoom print?)
-how websites can deteriorate and links expire (like my Tumblr) which is like a natural thing in nature - everything is fragile. and temporary . our experience of it all
