I started to play around with digitally painting the collage I made from the battle royale film still and my own images - I realise now that the composition is a bit strange but I'm not sure if I want to change it. the rectangle in the middle referencing the monolith in space odyssey looks a bit strange too but I'm gonna go through with the digital painting and see what happens. I'm painting it close to how I normally would - tracing the figures, slowly filling them in. of course, without the guide of the freedom of ink though. but digital painting is allowing me to explore less fluid brushstrokes - and even more illustrative or the other end, more painterly (bigger brush strokes), which is good. it's been fascinating understanding how the process of building tones and carving out shapes out of these different colours is (I need more practice..) but yeah, it's been challenging but fun. It looks like I've only just started because I've been spending days on the other collages and this research journal, (talks, gathering imagery by consumption, generating ideas) so it's definitely one of those things that I keep going back to. it feels like I'm simultaneously working on 3, 4 things at once (and maybe it also feels like I'm not getting any of them done...) but I'm trying to keep optimistic.
just seeing some of the outline was kind of exciting. sometimes I really like how some compositions look with just lines... but I always paint into them at the end.
