jon rafman dream journal

I really wanted to look into Jon rafman's work - I loved the one that was included in the schedule document zoë sent to us:

You are Standing in an Open Field (Waterfall), 2015, inkjet print mounted on Dibond, resin, polystyrene, 1.3 x 1.5 m

I think it's beautiful and though provoking. when I looked at his website there were so many great video works too... I need to look more into them. I came across his youtube, where he uploads 'dream journals' - which of course I was really interested in, as I also keep one myself, though it is just quick documentation in writing as soon as I wake up. I love his records because he makes them into these strange, almost terrifying or comical recreations of 'dreams' he supposedly had, with digital means, like I am walking through a 3D rendered parallel universe. it's definitely quite inspiring to see... I really want to create more work with 3D in the future...

'I saw in these virtual spaces a reflection of our world, they were more transparent reflections, because they pointed towards our own artificiality. in day to day life, we forget we are putting on avatars, putting on masks, and then we forget we actually exist in these different virtual worlds'
sheer act of exploration..'
