tutorial with dan hays

I had my tutorial today where I updated him about where I am in my studio work (finishing the box painting, showing him my photographs and memories print, starting the nightmare painting, and thinking about the nature/culture idea)

he said that
- I can think about having a variety of scales (of work) perhaps scaling down
- I can go through with experimenting with photographs/digital collages (with the text like the memories make me one)
- there's probably not much more to add for the box painting and it is really successful
- the different works speak to each other (like a discursive practice)
- I have a particular colour palette, magentas and cyan (are like a print colour)
- memories make me piece: relates to my practice, displacement, travel
- interesting that box painting is a found image
- the artist helen sear, because she deals with this topic
- I could choose a photograph in powell-cotton that has the window in window effect/emphasise screen/framing, or one that is more ambiguous
- there is the dilemma of the powell cotton photographs or painting,
- I should think about more painting/painterly development, before degree show/interim
- I could use a playful approach for nature/culture idea in text and drawing
- I could use the interim show to experiment with different approaches and how it looks together
- I should develop more texts
- we end up with the same conclusion every time, to work on every facet... and maybe smaller
scale/simple/cartoon(work through a lot of that, can even be a book or selection of small print outs)
- the nightmare painting reminds him of the david lynch film inland empire
- my practice is like a collage, not fixed , and that's a virtue to be pushed and celebrated
