language project edit (2nd revised draft)

after struggling through the first version of the language project edit and showing it to the group members, I found it very problematic. It was not aesthetically pleasing, it was too busy, it felt amateur, I had to change it, it looked like a pamphlet you immediately throw away upon receiving it. This is giving me flashbacks in high school when I designed the exhibition poster for our graduating art show, and my first version was probably one of the ugliest things ever (it was also too busy, I think there is something about eliminating elements that is one of my biggest weaknesses, I want to include everything) and somebody in the class who is much better at me at graphic design told me that I should delete some images from it. I narrowed it down to one main element and it looked much better. (now that I think of it, I used my own art on that poster, and manipulated it, not unlike how dan holdsworth did his mirrors series...) **

so, the first thing I knew I had to do was delete some things (was using too many images, even though the idea was to collage all our busy minds/life together) and limit the colours a bit more. After toning those elements down it looked slightly better, I began to also change the centre area, where the figure stands with the huiping's imagery with the landscape. I suppose in the new version I wrapped the figure more with the manipulated image, I guess to explicitly say something about being engulfed in our everyday images? or just being overwhelmed / or even comforted by these images somehow. it is kind of a cliché concept but, it is there all the same. of course, there is a reference to nature through digital means again, which I am constantly thinking about. I think its interesting how most of our everyday images are of nature. I guess that makes sense, we want to capture what is beautiful, what is strange, what is impressive, what is desirable, something we want to capture forever, for what purpose I do not know, to hold on to that beauty longer.
