trying canvas for the first time in this course, liking it

I finally tried canvas stapled onto the wall (badly) and proceeded to gesso it, but I accidentally went experimental with the primer as I see marks fading in and out, and one thing led to another and I was grabbing my pastels, watercolour crayon (the 1 that I have), watercolours, inks, spray paint and in the end there was a lot of water and pipette action. but it was exciting, chaotic, something I really needed and wanted, the freedom of form that is freer than painting on traced lines I have been doing for the last academic year. It felt like a breath of fresh air and I wonder why it took me so long to get back into doing things freely. The canvas material itself, was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it would be, it is definitely harder to spread some mediums, and painting vertically had a different set of challenges to painting on a table. But i am not hating it, at all! I feel I am somewhat moving forward and I really want to make works that are RAW, perhaps, FINALLY, with some text, which is major in my practice though not very obvious unless you know the titles of my past paintings. Im thinking of tracey emin's and louise bourgeios drawings...
