I was darkening the face shadows and colours when I realised that the hair was too light / needed more contrast in comparison to the face so I started to essentially add darker shadows to everything. I knew I wanted to keep the cat toy not so detailed so that the face is the central focal point... I was also debating whether or not to add the bed in.. It seems to have too much of the pink... After adding the darker colours in the eyes it had an entirely different effect to how it looked earlier... I was definitely taking inspiration from hikari shimoda's child figures and thinking about jenny saville, how the skin is treated in those paintings...
