  • humour such a subjective thing. one mans humour is another’s lead balloon 
  • deadpan perspective on communication
  • diverse range of media, draw from minimal art
  • diversity of references, eg to pop culture, british history 
  • hard science of making around humour, carried out at art school 
  • left school and into manufacturing, years later 
  • in his BA a sort of denial going on, couldn’t resolve it, keeping him going was the sense of, ‘I can make’ aware of manufacturing processes, larger scale. 
  • was in love of pop but didn’t know how to utilise, what grabbed his attention was minimalism (singular objects that speak for themselves. that emote that making) (metaphor for what he was going through at the time) 
  • as much as he loved making found it hard to talk about, became estranged from the objects made 
  • idea of art school, crits, didn’t have control of content, 
  • manufacturing, masculine intense but also loving environment... tenderness and hard edge 
  • valuable to write from your own perspective
  • interest: tommy cooper british comedian (I found out that he had died live on tv in her majesty's theatre, and that is probably the most horrific thing to think about. it is so, so sad. )

  • accidental research 
  • locked into idea that we can only show our best things. worst idea = turned out really useful. stay alive, don’t have to be perfect person to make things happen 

writing exercise. introduction describe analyse situate conclusion biography 
  • can do with context, artworks, ideas as well. 
  • introduction as a sketch, 
  • always do conclusion last

  • how would yOu storyboard a recent piece of research you have engaged with - - lecture, film, event, exhibition (mind maps might be hard to look back on) 
  • you are curating a fantasy exhibition around a certain theme - who is in the show? how will you begin the press release? eg truth - press release eg someone who works with falsery, who else, dealing with critique of replicate, eg storytelling, Karen kaminlik, other artists in that area. 
  • curating your essay then. 
  • keywords and low do bibliography (fine art bibliography on moodle)
