I've just reorganised/cleaned my room entirely (which is a huge task, because I basically have a hoarder's room) and I came to realise how much the things I own inspire me and make up my character today. The art of deciding what to put in a room for characterisation in films is something that is so clever, you don't really think much about it even though it gives that much more understanding to the person. Seeing the IKEA showrooms, set up for the average person while thinking about this was certainly interesting. All these fake computer screens, pieces of clothing that has never been worn hung in a fashion that it has, it's just like a fake set. (which is another thing that scare and fascinate me - especially when I was younger - fake greenery, fake dinosaurs, fake movie sets.. when I went to universal studios and gone on the tour where they let the fake rain and fake fire flow it was such a surreal feeling. What's real? I think the most terrifying thing is the fake animals like the JAWS sharks and the open-mouthed hippos that rise from the water. The same fear as taxidermy, but they MOVE.) Anyway, I definitely think the domestic/domestic setting is an interesting subject - olive is always painting domestic scenes, which is inspiring me as well.
