alec benjamin's narrative songs

a snippet of his live performance of 'let me down slowly' at the late late show

I've recently dug deeper into alec benjamin's songs after 'let me down slowly' hit radio charts. I've heard of one song by him before, which I initially thought was very unique and narrative. After listening to more of his songs I realise happily that all of them are like this. You don't get a lot of artists that have songs like this. I have a few favourites already - but I love 'let me down slowly' not just because of the melody but also how sad it is.

I wanted to make this post because I think it's really amazing how artists convert feelings into words (especially with a melody?) and from something sad to something happy-sounding. This is why I like Adam Young (owl city)'s songs so much, because as he said himself before, he likes the sad lyrics/happy sounding thing as well. He also has lyrics that are poetic/abstract. Alec on the other hand has simple and clear-cut that lead you straight into a narrative from the first line. I feel they also reflect on life and its sufferings. It is quite brutal and honest, (but also touching and emotional) which is why I like them.

Below are some lyrics from alec's songs:
