Last night I finally watched the boy in the striped pajamas, which I avoided watching but at the same time have always wanted to watch it completely through but was scared it would be too sad. And it was. It really hit me again that this really was the life at the time and real people suffered under Hitler's ethnic cleansing. It was just so inhumane that it felt surreal. And Bruno, having to learn about all this at such a young age, all of this again led back to that 'forced maturity' from childhood. Some traumas you cannot avoid.
