- can use liquin glaze in specific or all layers to make paint brighter/ look wet.
- maybe use artist grade oil paints, richer and last longer
- the digital experiments are definitely helping with composition and allowing more control over brush strokes since the composition is already decided
- ed ruscha: course of empire based on thomas cole paintings
- could adjust contrast to more intense
- asked if I should adjust all elements in collage to be same lighting etc and he said depends on me, if I don’t it would look quite ‘unreal’ and maybe I don’t mind that. I asked if Martin Edens paintings in Parasite - the lighting is unified? and think they are.
- I said the anxiety of losing a loved one I always come back to, and it feels quite repetitive, and he said yeah but it is always there and art can be therapeutic
- he said there are cute elements and I said in high school I used to do that as well but my teacher told me to move away from that but recently I miss putting them in

tutorial notes from Tom:
* You’ve made some great progress with the
paintings, experimenting with digital collages
as a way of working out imagery. This has
made the work more effective and allows you
to play with ways of painting more directly.
* You could now experiment with higher contrast
and more intense colours – perhaps using
better oil colours and glazes (e.g. liquin).
* In terms of contrast look at landscape painters
like Turner – also Thomas Cole – see the
catalogue for the Ed Ruscha ‘Course of
Empire’ show.
